What is Public Domain?

Music that’s in the public domain no longer has exclusive rights ownership, usually referring to publishing rights. Generally, musical work published in 1925 or before in the US is in the public domain meaning only the master rights of the recording need to be cleared for sync. In the UK, copyright expires 70 years after the death of the final remaining rights holder. Some Christmas hymns are a good example of public domain pieces.
